Diane Van Deurzen

Diane photo_300Diane Van Deurzen is a jazz and blues singer from Tucson. Her soulful and angelic voice has brought her rave reviews from Tucson Lifestyle, "Van Deurzen's voice is warm and soothing, pouring out the lyrics with effortless control" (Scott Barker), and Tucson Weekly, "One of the finest instinctually pure singers I have heard (Gene Armstrong).

In 2006, Diane released her debut CD, "I Never Knew",  a collection of beautiful jazz ballads as well as her original songs, the "lush" title track, "I Never Knew", and her "sly and sexy" "Walk My Honey Path".  In 2010, she produced and recorded "Wild Women", a tribute to 100 years of classic blues women. Duncan Hudson from KXCI called it a "great mix of sass, sentimentality, sexual innuendo and humor".  In 2011, Diane produced and recorded her Christmas CD, "Meet Me Under the Mistletoe", which is full of warm Christmas ballads,  swinging jazz pieces, and bluesy, sultry songs. Her original title track "is bound to be the next Christmas Classic" (Bobby Rich, MIX-FM). Diane produced these and other CD projects for Owl's Nest Productions, including the Desert Divas' "Bring Your Own Boa" and Lisa Otey's "Trio".

Diane has performed at theatres, clubs, and festivals around the Southwest US, Mexico, and Europe. She also produces, writes and designs sets for "Hot Love for Valentines Cabaret," a celebration of the playful side of love in all its diversity. Whether Diane performs for 20 or 2,000,  she makes a personal connection to her audience and they feel like they have known her for years.  Diane puts her passion into every song she sings.

When she is singing a heartbreaking ballad or a bluesy swing number, she puts herself in every note.  She creates an intimacy with her audience when she turns a phrase with warmth and precision.  "She flirts with a gospel soulfulness ...and hearkens back to a time when class and sophistication characterized the best jazz singers" (Gene Armstrong).
